The Roosevelt’s Hidden Poker Room
The Roosevelt is a small chic bar in Potts Point channelling 1950’s New York. Think whisky, martinis, hidden doors, Frank Sinatra and Marilyn Monroe… if that sounds like your vibe then this is the venue for you.
The ‘Monroe Room’ caters for private parties up to 60 guests while the hidden private poker room is perfect for a single table poker game – be it a bucks party or any other event. The Roosevelt poker room can seat up to 12 players, but would more comfortably fit up to ten players. This private poker room is also used for private dining experiences and whisky tasting sessions.
Reach out to staff at https://theroosevelt.com.au/ for more info. The Roosevelt offers different dining and drinks packages, with minimum spend criteria for most functions, including private poker bookings.
The Occidental Hotel’s Function Room for Poker Games
The Occidental Hotel is a historic pub located right above Wynyard station. Level 2 of the Occidental Hotel contains a great space for any private function, particularly for poker games ranging from around 20-50 people.
We have hosted multi-table poker tournaments for bucks parties here ourselves. The function space is a completely private area with its own dedicated bar, dance floor, lounge area, toilets and access via a lift.
Like many pub function spaces, The Occidental’s can be booked for poker games through a minimum bar spend. In our experience, the minimum spend has been very reasonable for a Saturday night and guarantees at least one dedicated bar staffer for the area. The Occidental Hotel is also accommodating if you would like to book your own cocktail waitresses externally.
For more info reach out to The Occidental staff here https://theoccidental.com/functions/ and for any assistance in running a poker game reach out to Randwick Poker Hire here.
The Gidley’s Private Poker Room
The Gidley is a stylish steak house in the middle of Sydney’s CBD. The Gidley offers a hidden single table private room known as ‘The Library’. You’ll find this poker room hidden behind a door labelled ‘Private’. The Private Poker contains a custom made poker table made with velvet green felt and plush mahogany-coloured leather rails.
The Gidley has created what is arguably Sydney’s premier private poker room, perfect for many small and intimate events.
Room hire starts from $1050, including a dedicated croupier. The croupier is your dedicated poker dealer for the evening who will keep the poker game ticking along smoothly and will also make sure drinks service arrives when required.

East Village’s Classic Sports Bar and Poker Table
In the heart of Darlinghurst, East Village is a great pub, best known for its roof top bar on level 3. However, the Athletic Club on level 2 is where we like to spend our time with a classic sports bar and bespoke poker table.
East Village’s Athletic Club is a dedicated sports bar with leather booths, timber details and a great selection of rum and whisky. While the Athletic Club contains only a single poker table, there’s plenty of room to cater for multiple tables and private events of varying sizes.
East Village caters for private functions of 15-70 people. Find more info here http://www.eastvillagesydney.com.au/#athletic-club
The Shark Hotel’s Private Poker Space
The Shark Hotel is a popular choice for private poker games and bucks parties in Sydney. Located in the inner-city suburb of Surry Hills, the Shark Hotel has a lively and energetic atmosphere that is perfect for poker games. The venue has a dedicated function space called the “bikini lounge” that is perfect for private events, cordoned off from the rest of the hotel with a large thick curtain. The bikini lounge, which could reasonably fit several poker tables, contains an exclusive bar with its own bartender, making it easy to set up and run a poker game.
This space can generally be booked with a minimum spend of $1500. You are also welcome to use your own cocktail waitresses and poker dealers externally booked.
The Shark Hotel also has multiple pool tables and a dance floor, allowing guests to kick on and have a good time after their poker game. If you’re looking for a more relaxed venue to hire for a Sydney poker party or private poker hire event, the Shark Hotel is a great choice.
Newmarket Hotel’s Dedicated Poker Room
And finally, the Newmarket Hotel located on the corner of Botany Road and Gardners Road in Mascot, is the pub in Sydney’s East best known for their dedicated poker room. Here, pub poker tournaments run weekly, but the venue could no doubt be booked for private poker events. The poker tables in the Newmarket Hotel’s dedicated poker are admittedly pretty run down, but we’re sure management would be accommodating if you were to bring in externally hired tables for bespoke function bookings. You can contact the Newmarket Hotel about functions at https://newmarkethotel.com.au/
